Theodore Warnakulasuriya’s latest works, “Hadayage Nagaraya”, “Haaday’s City”, and “Hadaya’s Nagar”, are sponsored by GIZ, a German development agency, and SCOPE, which runs programmes aimed at strengthening social cohesion and peace in Sri Lanka. Jointly, these are funded by the Government of Sri Lanka, the European Union, and German Cooperation. A limited number of copies are printed; however, a free PDF version is available to anyone who sends an e-mail to Theodore. The primary section of Anula Vidyalaya Colombo will act out the story for their school, and some undergraduate students from the Sri Pali campus will narrate the story for Maliyadeva Girls High School in Kurunegala. The performances aim to engage students and foster a deeper understanding of cultural narratives through the arts. By collaborating across institutions, the initiative seeks to inspire creativity and encourage a love for storytelling among the youth. Theodore has already written so many storybooks and songs for children and produced two stage dramas for children, and this is the first time he has been selected for sponsorship by an international organisation. This opportunity not only highlights Theodore’s talent but also underscores the importance of storytelling in fostering creativity among young minds. As the preparations unfold, he is eager to see how the collaborations will inspire both the performers and the audience alike. His friends Kingsley Gunathilake and Nilmini Bandara illustrate all these books in the Japanese “Nihonga” art style. Hadayage Nagaraya will be acted out by Anula Balica, Colombo, and Dharmapala Pannipitya schools.
